What do successful entrepreneurs have in common?
‘Dragon’s Den’ Peter Jones was on a mission to find out what drives top business entrepreneurs during the BBC2 programme. Interviewing “Richard Reed – co-founder of Innocent, the smoothie company with a 165 million pound turnover, and Michelle Mone, the self-made inspiration behind the multimillion pound Ultimo lingerie business”.
What can we learn from these entrepreneurs?
o That change and bumps lay ahead. It is how we deal with them that count.
o That it’s important to look after your team, because they will look after you.
o That publicity catapults your business.
o That collaboration and working in partnership is key. We see this with Richard who has a very strong partnership with his suppliers. Do something you love with people you love and in a way to be proud of.
o That making money from your life’s mission is possible. In fact according to Richard, the greatest and most successful business people are lead by their life’s mission. Concentrate on the good your brand can bring rather than concentrating on your profits.
o You don’t have to come from money to make money. Michelle comes from a poor/ no qualification background to now running a multi million pound business.
o And lastly, do not accept ‘No’ for an answer!
So what do successful entrepreneurs have in common?
It’s all about the person. Regardless of the business plan, investors invest in you. People buy into people!
They all have self doubt one time or the other. We are also influenced one way or the other by our past experiences. Whether this makes us to be our own worst enemy or pushes us to greater things is what separates some from the masses.
Knowing that – making lots of money is not a bad thing. Having money allows you to help more people and enables the re-distribution of wealth.
However what I like best about this programme… when asked whether he (Richard Reed) would give away his business for a cool £100million, he said he would have to speak to his wife first.
Yep, you know it… We rule! Right?
